Battery

For Battery Pack NK-300

  • Charging
    • Plug in the Adapter
    • Close the printer's top lid
    • The charging light should Flash or blink up to 10 hours. When fully charged, the charge light will turn off.
    • A fully charge and good battery can print approx. 180 pages @ 5% coverage, but remember every print job is NOT 5%, so this value can vary greatly. Also If you leave the printer on when not printing, it will shorten the battery time.
  • Discharging / Refresh
    • Insure the battery pack is in the battery case (portable kit)
    • Using a pointed object, ie a pen, press the REFRESH button (right side of battery case).
    • The REFRESH light should blink up to 10 hours max.
    • When the battery is discharged, the printer will start re-charging the battery.

  • BC-10 - Print Head
  • BCI-11 Black - Ink Tank (Black BC-11)

Known Issues

Black Page When Printing Faxes

If when you print a fax, it comes out as a solid black page, go into the printer's properties and set the printer to Mono.

Printing Slowly

If you get the this printer printing very slowly, try reinstalling it as a BJC4000. Also make sure that the printer is set to Bi-Directional instead of ECP (in the computers BIOS). Also it may be worth going into the printer's properties and try setting the spool option to 'Print Direct to Printer'.

Not Printing Through Infra-Red Port

On some machines, mainly notebooks, this printer will not print via IrDA. Follow these steps to get it to work.

Firstly, try

  • Go into the Infa-red properties, and limit the connection speed to 56kpbs.
  • Set the printer to print from Com4.

If that doesn't work, then,

  • Download IrDA 2.0 from Microsoft's Website.
  • Go into device manager and remove any Infra-red devices from the Infra-red and Ports sections.
  • Extract the IrDA 2.0 file (you may need to download Winzip for this). And then run the setup program.
  • Delete the Canon BJC80 printer driver and reinstall it as a Canon BJC4000, installing it on the Infra-red Communications Port (Usually Com4). Also go to the printer's properties and set the spool settings to 'Print Direct to Printer'.

When an image is scanned, it prints 4 times bigger then the page

This happens when you are using PAINT to print from. Use the software that came with the scanner or use any graphical/Desk Top Publishing software.

Will not run on battery or battery life is short after charge

Note - The printer will not print if both the Battery and the AC Adapter are plugged in at the same time. If this is not the case, then the battery may need refreshing, as follows,

  • Connect the Adapter to the printer
  • Close the printer cover
  • Press the REFRESH button on the battery pack, the refresh light should begin flashing, it could take up to 10 hours to refresh the battery.

The battery may get a memory effect, meaning it will not charge to full capacity. This is the purpose of the REFRESH function.

Canon BJC-80, USB driver, & Windows XP

Thanks to Charles Lewis for sending this in -

Canon apparently didn't supply any BJC-80 USB drivers for 2000/XP. The following is the most straightforward, get-to-it way I've found to use a USB driver and cable with a Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-80 printer and Windows XP. All we're doing is using the BJC-85 USB driver for the predecessor BJC-80. I haven't tested this with twenty-hundred.

;Printer: Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-80
