15th February 2008

The main update to note this week is that I've changed the driver link on the Quanta TW3 based Advent laptop pages. The new links point to a site which has a wider range of drivers, including Windows Vista, as well as a copy of the user manual. Because of this the TW3 drivers on the uktfs domain have been removed which will free up bandwidth for the other drivers we are currently hosting.

We got very close to our monthly bandwidth limit on the uktfs domain this month and as a result we had to remove the drivers for the TW3 and KN3 based Advent laptops for three days this week. The drivers are now available again, apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

• Corrected the Advent 9117 laptop page as this model doesn't have a webcam built-in
• Corrected the ECS 331 based Advent laptop pages - there are four screws not one holding the metal plate

Well 2008 is upon us (belated Happy New Year to everyone) and that can mean only one thing, another 12 months of trying to unravel the mysteries of Advent computers. The first updates of the year are -

Thanks to Hi-Grade and Sabio updating their FTP sites most of the work this week has been spent correcting broken driver links in the Advent laptops section. The drivers for the Advent laptops based on the Quanta TW3, Mitac 8060, Mitac 8080, and Mitac 8170 are now hosted on our uktfs.co.uk domain.

I've also updated the memory information on the Advent 7062 and 7065 pages to note that these laptops take SDRAM memory and not SODIMMs.

Happy 10th Birthday to..... UKT Support!!!!!

Nobody can remember the exact date the site went live but after a bit of research the general consensus is it must have been sometime in June-July 1997.

What can you say its certainly been an eye opening experience. Despite being hacked a couple of times and even nearly sued once, somehow we've kept it going and site has grown from a few pages on Compuserve to its own domain and at its peak we had up to 14,000 visitors a day.

I'm not one for long speeches so I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who has helped over the years and if my sanity holds who knows we may even make it to 11 years.

10 years of trying to make sense of Advent computers... Someone put me out of my misery please....
